Forest Project Workshops – “Bring Your Own Biennale,” Hong Kong (Dec. 4, 2009-Feb. 27, 2010)

As part of the Hong Kong leg of the 2009 Hong Kong & Shenzen Bi-city Biennale of Urbanism/Architecture, Xu Bing will offer a series of Forest Project workshops at the West Kowloon Waterfront Promenade.

The Forest Project seeks to establish a self-sustaining system that links art lovers in developed countries with local communities in developing countries, with proceeds from the sale of student artwork directed to greenbelt reforestation in developing countries.

Each workshop will accommodate 40 students and will be held from 11.30am-1.00pm. Slots are still available for the following dates: Dec. 13, 19, 20. Jan. 2,9,16,17,23. Feb. 6, 7, 20, 21.

20 Reasons We Still Need Superman, a video art touring festival curated by Tim Crowley, continues its tour of Asia with two nights of viewings at the Ullens Center for Contemporary Art Beijing. Video works by Paul McCarthy, John Smith, John Bock, Xu Bing, Wang Qingsong and many others.

Xu Bing’s towering Phoenix sculptures are featured in the hour-long documentary “Chine: l’empire de l’art?” which aired in France on the ARTE network at 10:35 PM (CET) on December 3rd, 2009. “Chine: l’empire de l’art?” is written by Emma Tassy and directed by Emma Tassy and Sheng Zhimin.
