Xu Bing Awarded the 2014 U.S. Department of State Medal of Arts by Secretary of State

Secretary of State John Kerry awarded the second U.S. Department of State-Medal of Arts during a luncheon ceremony at 12:15 p.m. on January 21, 2015, in the Department’s Benjamin Franklin Room.

Secretary of State John Kerry awarded the second U.S. Department of State-Medal of Arts during a luncheon ceremony at 12:15 p.m. on January 21, 2015, in the Department’s Benjamin Franklin Room.

The Department of State Office of Art in Embassies has announced Xu Bing as one of the recipients of the second US. Department of State- Medal of Arts.

Other artists who also received the award are Mark Bradford, Sam Gilliam, Maya Lin, Julie Mehretu, Pedro Reyes, and Kehinde Wiley.

On June 10, Xu Bing will receive The Spirit of the City Global Arts Award at The Cathedral Church of Saint John Divide during The Thirty Third Spirit Of The City Awards Gala. Spirit of the City, the Cathedral’s major annual fundraising benefit, has celebrated some of New York’s most outstanding individuals in culture, business, philanthropy, and global citizenship. Proceeds from the evening help underwrite programs offered by the Cathedral year-round; preserve the magnificent building and grounds that are its legacy; and welcome over one million visitors and worshipers annually. Mary Jane Brock, Sarah E. Nash and Michael S. Sylvester serve as the dinner’s Co-Chairs.

Xu Bing to be awarded honorary doctorate by Columbia University, May 18, New York, NY

Xu Bing Studio is pleased to announce that Columbia University will confer the degree of Doctor of Humane Letters upon Xu Bing during the University’s 2010 commencement exercises. This year’s honorees include early American historian Bernard Bailyn; DNA research pioneer Jacqueline Barton; Harlem Children’s Zone founder Geoffrey Canada; noted economist C. Lowell Harriss (awarded posthumously); Chancellor of the New York City Department of Education Joel L. Klein; Pulitzer Prize winning playwright Tony Kushner and innovating Chemist Koji Nakanishi.

Xu Bing Named “2010 Eco Hero” by Shanghai’s “The Bund” Magazine

Xu Bing was recently named one of ten “Eco Heroes” at “2010 China Top 10 Eco Heroes Award & Green Leaders Summit” hosted by The Bund Magazine (外滩画报).

Selected for his reforestation efforts in the Mt. Kenya region and Inner Mongolia through his Forest Project, Xu Bing received the award in Shanghai on March 12.

Other honorees include Li Bing Bing, Cai Hong, Yu Xiaogang, Fang Minghe, Liu Jiakun, Ren Yu, Yang Mingde, Zhao Zhong. Click HERE for an English summary.
